What Is an Eco House?

Several factors make up our eco homes in NZ. Firstly, we construct our houses to be energy efficient (unlike lower-quality prefabricated buildings, which utilise steel or metal framing which transfer heat – making it a less energy-efficient choice). Our homes are constructed within closely controlled factory settings, meaning they have a much lesser impact on the environment. Also, it means the build is completed quicker, and the cost of site works for our clients is much lower.

The materials of the ecopod are inherently built to conserve energy. We construct with New Zealand pine - a material with many environmental properties. As well as capturing carbon, pine is a great insulator and can be easily reworked if required in the future.

From the bottom to the top of the pod, its design screams maximum energy efficiency. Double-glazed windows and glass wool insulation mean lower heating costs. Our Ecopods also contain sophisticated polystyrene underfloor insulation. The ceiling and walls are also made from 65% recycled materials, or materials from forestry which would otherwise have gone to waste. The high performance of our ecopods helps cut costs from energy bills - while protecting the environment.

Part of what solidifies the eco in eco house is their efficient use of land. Intelligent, thoughtful designs maximise space and functionality while conserving the physical footprint. Plus, their transportability and adaptability mean they can be reused over and over for various purposes (home office, gym, studio, sleepouts, guest dwellings, etc.). As minor dwellings, ecopods are a great solution to increasing urban density to support the growing needs of our cities without expanding into green or brown-field rural sites.

But what really clinches the pods' eco status is that they're built to last. Cheaper prefabricated homes will deteriorate more quickly due to less robust material selection and workmanship which cuts corners.
